Buffy Spy Trailer

The goal of this assignment was to take Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a black comedy/horror genre television show, and make a trailer for a version that was a thriller/spy/espionage film.

Week Ten

Week Eleven

I don't have a camera or a phone with video capabilities, so I can't do this assignment. However, here are two water-color self-portraits I painted.

Week Nine

The Triangle represents sounds I hear most commonly at UNCSA, the Circle sounds I hear at home, and the Rhombus is sounds I hear while driving. I tried to represent the emotions I connect with varying sounds and families of sounds through the colors and shapes of each. For instant, the bright green circle within the "Home" category stands for the sound of wind rustling through tree leaves, my favorite sound of all time. The circle is green, for the vibrant aliveness of the sound. The rectangle within it is blue, for the relaxed, peaceful feeling I encounter when I listen to the sound.

Week Six

A student of the arts arranges a scene. Combs her hair. Drapes the fabric in aesthetically pleasing waves on the mattress on the floor. A painting hangs on the wall above her, which she removes so that the wall is empty and serene, leaving an uninterrupted landscape for the eye to pass over. Every bone in her body creaks with pain from being ill, her eyes are heavy and she has not felt this miserable in a long time. She sets up a camera and lays across the mattress, trying to represent her weakness and discomfort in her posture. The sun moves to exactly the right place, natural daylight filtering into the room and lighting her perfectly. She takes the photo.

Ramble

"...And who are you?"

The idea that we're supposed to know who we are bothers me. Knowing oneself is literally impossible. We hide so much from ourselves consciously and unconsciously. If we were to fully understand ourselves, our faults and our impulses and the things we want, subconscious desires and appetites we can't admit to ourselves, we would all kill ourselves. No human can know themselves and survive.

Massage Book

Art is anything you can get away with

Older societies thrived on purely literary plots

The past went that-a-way

We see the present through a rear-view mirror

"...And who are you?"

Rant

Does it not disturb anyone besides me that the Stanford Prison Experiment study describes the behavior of the abused and humiliated prisoners as "emasculated" and "more like a woman than a man" because humiliated prisoners acting "like women"  also means that behavior typically assumed by females is similar to that of abused prisoners but we don't need feminism.

"Dunhills," she said. "I hope that's alright." To his parents and his sister in Munich, February 12, 1942. The Party intellectual knows in which direction his memories must be altered; he therefore knows that he is playing tricks with reality; but by the exercise of doublethink he also satisfies himself that reality is not violated. I'd far rather have talked to you. The short hair accentuated his features, specifically his too-close-together beady eyes, which did not stand up well to accentuation.
